Strenuous exercise, such as tennis / football / cricket, may be resumed when indicated by Dr Dutta. Swimming may be resumed 45 days after your procedure.

Walking - Week 1: 10 minutes - 3 times/day Week 2: 15 minutes - 3 times/day Week 3: 20 minutes - 3 times/day. These are walking guidelines only - you may walk as much as tolerated if your pain does not increase by walking.

Three weeks after surgery, a formal program emphasising lumbar core strengthening, stretches and mobility exercises is recommended for maximum benefit. For learning these exercises, you may get the help of a physiotherapist. We have demonstrated these exercises in our youtube channel, the links of which are shared as below

Phase 1

Basic level-part 1. This exercise programme can be used for anyone looking to improve their posture and spine health. It is also designed for post lumbar spine surgery patients once he/she has been cleared by the treating doctor

Phase 2

Basic level-part 2. After about 3-6 weeks of phase one, the body will require more challenging exercises to progress and improve. Follow this to stay on your path of improvement.

Phase 3

Moderate level. After about 3-6 weeks of phase two, the body will require more challenging exercises to progress and improve. Do the exercises daily.

Phase 4

Advanced level. The final phase!

Cervical Spine Exercises

Three weeks after surgery, a cervical spine rehabilitation programme developed by Dr Dutta is recommended. Please do these exercises once your treating doctor has cleared you to do so. These exercises are designed for anyone looking to improve their posture and cervical spine health.
